The Intellitron AA-3915 RF Isolator is an essential tool for any radio operator, providing a reliable way to prevent problematic and potentially dangerous “RF-in-the-shack.” Common-mode RF current, which can travel along the outside surface of your coax shield, can cause equipment failures, disrupt microprocessor settings, and even lead to painful RF burns during transmit. On the receive side, it can introduce local RFI that masks weak signals and impairs long-distance (DX) communication. Rated for 1500 Watts PEP, the AA-3915 is specifically designed to choke off this disruptive RF energy before it can reach your operating desk.
Unlike a typical balun, the AA-3915 has no effect on the RF energy flowing to your antenna. Instead, it acts as an open circuit to common-mode RF energy, effectively interrupting the current path using ferrite beads. It is a best practice to install the isolator in series with the coaxial line as it exits or enters your building. A small “weep hole” is included in the housing to prevent condensation buildup; simply orient this hole downward if installing the unit outdoors.
- High Power Rating: Rated for 1500 Watts PEP, suitable for high-power operations.
- Frequency Range: Designed for use from 1.8 MHz to 50 MHz (160-10M).
- RF Current Suppression: Effectively chokes off common-mode RF current on the outside of the coax shield.
- Prevents “RF-in-the-Shack”: Mitigates equipment interference, RF burns, and local RFI on receive.
- Durable Construction: Built to withstand outdoor installation with a condensation “weep hole.”
